What is adversity? Some see adversity as an obstacle, a hurdle or something else that prevents them from being able to reach their potential in any given moment, or at any given thing.
The definition of adversity is: A state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune.
But is that what it really is? I would disagree. I think that adversity is the great teacher. If you think about it, in this life all of your accomplishments have come from overcoming some type of adversity. We learn things to overcome our present situations. When you are unable to accomplish a goal, we learn the skills to overcome it, for example we learn to crawl when we are little to be able to access the things we desire (toys, food, parents etc.). Then we learn to walk to get there faster, and then to run to increase that speed even more.
This is true in every aspect of our life. In order to communicate we have to learn how to speak, then read and then write. In order to eat we have to learn how to chew, and swallow, then cook and prepare our food.
So what if we looked at all adversity like that, rather than as an obstacle, as a way to improve ourselves and to learn and grow new skills.
I think that we hold on to adversity as our downfall, merely because it gives an excuse to fail without trying. It is socially acceptable to use any adversity or struggle we have as a reputable excuse for not reaching our potential, and what makes that worse is that the world coddles that and encourages the lack of ambition.
The truth is there is always a way to grow from adversity. The smallest movement is growth. As I stated above, we do not just start running; we first crawl, then walk and eventually run. That is the way to overcome anything we face.
It is the compounding of the small wins that will build the courage and the discipline to achieve the big wins. I once heard someone say that "1 day of change is unnoticeable, but 100 days of change and you are unrecognizable". I believe that is true.
I encourage everyone to make that 1 step towards overcoming their obstacles and climbing their mountains every day. Always remember that you can always take 1 more step. If it gets too hard you can quit BUT NOT TODAY!!!
Once you start stacking some wins, you will want more. As you continue to chase more you WILL get stronger, you WILL become REBILT "NEVER BROKEN".
